Terrifying Horror Films From the Past

Halloween is a little over 2 weeks away and it is the perfect time to blast to the past and honor some of the scariest movies ever made. These three films are always on the top every scary movie list. Will you be watching them this Halloween?

The Exorcist

Religious or not, this movie is sure to give you nightmares about the Devil. The Exorcist was released in 1973 and is based somewhat on actual events. Directed by William Freidkin, it is one of the most profitable horror films. The movie is about a teenage girl who is possessed and says terrible things and also does creepy things like turning her head all the way around. Priest are sent over to try to get the Devil out of the girl. No matter how old you are The Exorcist will definitely give you a chill.

The Shining

It might just be the acting, but The Shining is by far one of the creepiest movies. Jack Nicholson is super weird in this movie that was first written as a book by Stephen King. Nicholson plays a writer and his family gets stuck in a hotel in the middle of winter. His son is psychic and sees horrific things from the past and future. The house is full of ghosts and the little boy can see them. Nicholson’s character ends up going crazy and starts terrorizing his family. The psychological thriller is really scary in its own way and will make you terrified of ever being stranded in a hotel.

The Poltergeist

The Poltergeist is a super freaky film. It might be one of the first movies about paranormal activity. The movie is about a family whose home is built on an ancient burial ground. The family experiences unexplainable occurrences and try to live in the haunted home. The ghosts communicate through the television with the little girl and she ends up missing. The original Poltergeist was released in 1982 so the movie was actually really scary and the special effects were really good during that time. Steven Spielberg wrote the screenplay and the movie was directed by Tobe Hooper.

Classic Rock Bands Still Rocking

It is hard to believe that more than 30 years later; some rock bands (aka hair bands) from the 1980s are still playing sell out shows. These guys might be pushing it in age, but they still know how to put on an awesome show.

Motley Crue

Motley Crue is on their last tour, for real. They even signed an agreement that the band will never tour again. The rock band formed in 1981 and Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, Mick Mars and Vince Neil still put on quite the show, even 34 years later. All of their entertaining concerts include insane pyrotechnics and Tommy Lee’s famous Crucifly drum roller coaster. Motley Crue has always been a successful band since the 1980s and now they even attract a younger generation.

Def Leppard

Def Leppard is also currently on tour with another iconic band, Styx. Fans will get to rock out to Def Leppard’s classic hits, but the band is also performing a bunch of their new stuff. They have about 15 new songs on their new album that Def Leppard plays during the 40-date tour, but don’t worry; they also make time for their old classic hits. The band formed back in 1977 and they still have a large following. Going on tour with Styx offers fans a great show for the price of one.

Foreigner

Foreigner formed in 1976 and they still put on one of the best shows. The band’s energy on stage is very impressive, especially for their age and they always play their classic hits. They haven’t had a new hit in a long time, but their older stuff never gets old. Thanks to the game Guitar Hero, they have even been introduced to a new generation. Concerts are full of a mix of ages and a great way for parents and their kids to bond. Foreigner is always doing shows somewhere and usually with other great bands like Journey and Styx.

The Walking Dead is Back

***Spoiler Alert***

AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead has finally returned for its 6th season. The first episode of the new season aired last night and the 90-minute episode had more walkers than ever before.

But even though there was no shortage of walkers, the episode wasn’t that great. Don’t get me wrong, every episode of The Walking Dead is good, but I was expecting so much more. I really thought they could have fit more into the 90 minutes. It was slow and didn’t really cover much ground.

It doesn’t look like Rick and Morgan have any issues with each other, like the previews made you think. They actually are close friends again. But, there are other people that Rick has some beef with. Pete’s son, Ron, is of course upset with Rick and he has no problem showing it.

A new character named Carter, played by Ethan Embry, also had issues with Rick. But he ended up getting bit by a walker and Rick had to kill him. It really wasn’t that big of a deal so not even worth elaborating on.

The episode was kind of all over the place. There were some scenes that were from the past and those happened to be in black and white. That was a cool effect, but it was still just really slow. Jump ahead to the current time and Rick is trying to get a group together to deal with a herd of walkers bigger than I have ever seen. If the group doesn’t do something quick, the huge herd will head right towards Alexandria.

It was really cool to see the group come together and work closely to try and get the walkers to go in a different direction. I liked how Nick has turned over a new leaf (hopefully) and works with Glenn to get the job done. Rick is pretty hard on the Alexandrians, but they are weak so they need to toughen up somehow.

The best part of the episode was any scene Eugene was in. He added a lot of humor to the episode and was the one thing that kept the episode going. There is also a new character, Heath, who seems like he might become a big part of the group. It will definitely be interesting to see what is ahead on The Walking Dead. Hopefully the next episode is better!

Why Men Should Get Manicures and Pedicures

Women absolutely love going to the nail salon and getting manicures and pedicures. So why shouldn’t men also like getting pampered? There are many benefits to getting manicures and pedicures and no, you do not need to paint your nails a color!

Pedi

For one, going to get your nails done with your significant other is a great way to relax together and bond. It would be a really good gift idea because every woman loves going to the nail salon and especially with her man. Plus, you get to enjoy yourself too.

Pedicures are great because it gets all of the dead skin off of your feet and helps if you have a callus. It also cleans up your nails and gets all the dirt off. And pedicures feel amazing. You get to soak your feet in warm water and get a foot massage. Usually you are sitting in a massage chair so you can also get a mini back massage at the same time.

Manicure

Manicures are terrific for pretty much the same reason as pedicures. They get your hands nice and clean and they also get all of the dirt off and under your nails. It is important to keep your nails short and trimmed so manicures are the best way to clean up your nails and cuticles. You also get a hand and arm massage during a manicure so that is a bonus.

All women love men with smooth hands and feet. Keeping up on this is easy by getting a manicure and pedicure. You can also maintain them by doing some work at home like trimming your nails and using lotion. So walk into that nail salon with confidence men, because no one is judging!

London Wants a NFL Team

The NFL has been traveling to London for nine years now to play regular season games. It seems like each year more and more games are played in London. So it is no surprise that the fan base is getting bigger over there.

Just this past Sunday, the New York Jets took on the Miami Dolphins at Wembley and for years now, British Chancellor George Osborn has expressed that he would love to have an official NFL team playing in the UK.

Obsorne is hoping that London will get a team in the next few years. NFL’s executive vice president international, Mark Waller, is also on board with London getting their very own team. He said that back in 2007, when the games first started in London, they have always envisioned a team coming to London within 15 years. Well, half of that time is already over so it looks like London might just be getting closer to getting their very own NFL team.

NFL

It would be difficult to have a NFL team in London for a couple reasons. Teams would have to travel back and forth from London to the United States each week and since it isn’t an easy flight that would cause a lot of jetlag. Also, a lot of big name players aren’t going to want to make the move to London so I don’t see that many good players playing on the team. It would be neat to have a team in London; just not sure how well it would work.

There are still two more regular season games for the NFL scheduled in London this year. The Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars will play on October 25th and one week later, the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs will face off.

The Splat Makes Nickelodeon Cool Again

All of you 90s kids have to remember the awesome programming that was on Nickelodeon back in the day. We were all addicted to Keenan and Kel, Doug and Legends of the Hidden Temple, just to name a few.

Now we all can relive those amazing shows with the Nickelodeon’s new programming block called The Splat. It kicked off on October 5th and so far it has been pretty successful.

The Splat

The only downfall is that the shows run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. But this is a really smart move on Nickelodeon’s part. A lot of these shows made Nick famous. So it is a really good idea to bring back their most popular shows. I bet a lot of today’s kids will start to like these old shows as well. Maybe they will even bring the shows back to air at a more decent time.

It is hard to forget just how much time we all spent watching our favorite shows. It is also going to be cool to see how some big celebrities got their start. For example, Melissa Joan Hart got her start on Clarissa Explains it All. Keenan Thompson first started on All That and then got his own show, Keenan and Kel.

The Splat is full of hours and hours of 90s shows like All That, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Hey, Arnold! Clarissa Explains it All, Keenan & Kel, Catdog, Hey Dude, The Angry Beavers, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rugrats, Salute your horts, The Wild Thornberrys,

On the first night of The Splat, viewers were able to catch reruns of The Adventures of Pete and Pete, You Can’t Do That On Television, The Ren and Stimpy Show and Doug.

Will you be tuning into The Splat?

Fear the Walking Dead Nails It With Season Finale

***SPOILER ALERT***

Fear the Walking Dead just wrapped up its first season on Sunday night and the season finale was amazing. It was definitely the best episode of the entire season and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.

If you have not seen the finale yet and do not want it to be ruined, come back and read this after you see it. I really can’t believe how they fit so much in just a one-hour episode and they didn’t leave anything out.

I was really impressed with how Daniel brought a giant herd of walkers (or whatever the new show is going to call them, we won’t find out until season 2) to the compound to distract the military so they could get to their loved ones in the hospital area. I have never seen a herd of walkers so big. Not even sure if I have seen a herd that big in The Walking Dead.

Luckily, the group was able to find Liza and Nick, but it wasn’t easy. After all hell broke loose, Liza was told to run for it and Nick took off with his new friend Stand. Nick and Strand got stuck in a hallway with walkers coming after them. This might have been one of the best scenes in the episode. Madison saw Nick and was trying to open the door and couldn’t. All she could see was walkers coming after her son. But then Liza shows up to the rescue with a card to help open the electronic doors. She did it in just enough time to save the two.

Strand

Once the group all finds each other again and start to leave, Andy comes out and threatens to shoot Daniel. Instead, he shoots Ophelia. She ends up surviving and the group heads to the coast where Strand says he owns a house there.

The group gets to this gorgeous house right on the beach and are able to get some food and water and just relax for a little. Strand shows Nick that there is a boat that he calls Abigail in the ocean that he thinks the group needs to get to.

But of course the show can’t end without some tears. Liza shows Madison that she has been bit and asks Madison to end her life for her. Travis stumbles upon the two before Madison goes through it and shoots Liza for her. Everyone in the group hears the gunshot and Chris runs to his mother to find her dead. The show ends with Travis crying on the beach and Madison trying to comfort him.

Of course I am left with some questions and cannot wait for season 2 to start. Is Strand a bad guy or is he really trying to help? Is Travis finally going to get tough and do what needs to be done? How will Chris react to his mother dying? Will Tobias show up in season 2? I guess we will have to wait to find out.

Michigan’s Spooky Urban Legends

Halloween is just around the corner, which makes it the perfect time to check out some creepy urban legends around the state of Michigan. There are some pretty crazy stories that float around Michigan. You be the judge if they are real.

Paulding Light

Courtesy of pinterest.com

The Paulding Light lights up on Highway 45 near the town of Paulding. Many people say the light is that of a railroad worker that died while trying to switch a track. Others say it could be the ghost of a Native American dancing on power lines. Either way, most think the light is a ghost of some sort. There is still no explanation for this light.

One of the most popular haunted places in the state is The Landmark Inn. Famous female pilot Amelia Earhart stayed at this hotel right before her death. It is said that her ghost makes frequent appearances in room 502. Many guests have reported odd noises coming from underneath the bed along with weird flickering lights. But people still choose to stay in room 502.

The Denton Road Bridge in Belleville is especially creepy. A woman lost her child on the bridge during a car crash and it is said that her ghost still haunts the bridge. Many bystanders believe the woman’s ghost is still there and have reported hearing the baby cry.

Squirrels

Courtesy of pinterest.com

Black Squirrels are not very common, but Michigan is one of the few regions that home these animals. Some believe these animals are evil. It is said that the founder of Kellogg cereals had these squirrels brought over to fight red squirrels. Just like black cats, people get a weird feeling from black squirrels. But there is no proof that they are evil.

Everyone has heard of the Bermuda Triangle, but have you heard of the Michigan Triangle? The triangle stretches across Lake Michigan and is known to have some very unexplainable mysteries. It is similar to the Bermuda Triangle where tales of ghost ships, UFO sightings and mysterious disappearances all have occurred in this area.

Why Iceland Should Be Your Next Vacation Spot

Just a few years ago not many people would think Iceland is a cool destination for a vacation. But recently, more and more people are choosing to travel to Iceland. So it made me wonder what is so popular about it. It isn’t just the fact that fire and ice can coexist like they do on the island, but there is much more to Iceland.

Iceland’s volcanic landscape is full of hot springs, waterfalls, geysers, glaciers and even black-sand beaches. Their winters are dark, but with mild temperatures. Their summers are sunny with sunshine at midnight, but cool and refreshing temperatures.

Vatnajökull and Snaefellsnes national parks call Iceland home and are a great place to see some stunning glaciers. Not only are these glaciers breathtaking to look at, they are perfect for ice climbing, snowmobiling and even hiking. There are also a number of waterfalls on the island and they are easy to find. Nothing is quite like the beauty of Iceland and there are tons of spots to go to see it. In the same trip you can experience hot springs and volcanoes along with beaches and glaciers.

Not only is the cultural scene impressive, but so are the natives. Icelanders, as they are called, are creative and many are known for their outstanding writing, composing, painting, acting and designing. Iceland is actually a really tight-knit community and brings such creative energy to the island.

Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and has a lively nightlife scene along with historic Viking museums. Surprisingly, the capital is a quick five-hour flight from New York and only three hours from London. Spending a couple days in Reykjavik is a must so that you can experience the restaurants and bars along with the museums and historical landmarks.

There is so much to do and see in Iceland that of course I am just scraping the surface. But there is no denying that Iceland is absolutely gorgeous and is a great place to go on your next vacation.
