Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition Stirs Controversy

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition has caused some controversy for it’s 7 continents series in the latest issue. Jezebel, a website known for it’s progressive female attitude, has complained that editors at Sports Illustrated used people of color as “props”. Jezebel argues that the magazine is perpetuating racial stereotypes by pairing healthy, predominately white women next to “primitive locals”. One photo in particular has stirred controversy. It portrays a white woman standing next to a black man holding a spear in tribal clothing.
