Sony recently announced the release of DPT-S1, a new model of digital paper at the whopping price of $1000. With dimensions of 23.3 x 31 x 0.68 cm, the DPT-S1 tablet is presented by Sony as the world’s thinnest digital paper. The E Ink touch “tablet” is aimed for business and education applications. The plastic based display is E Ink’s 1200×1600 13’3″ Mobius flexible E ink Panel that use Sony’s TFT technology.
The device utilizes 4GB of internal storage, microSD slot, Wi-Fi and PDF support. Aesthetically, the DPT-S1 is only 6.8 mm thick and weighs only 358 grams there is no glass on the device, instead it uses a flexible plastic screen to avoid shattering.
The device uses an incredibly low amount of energy and it is estimated that it can run for three weeks without being charged. This estimate is expected to decline if Wifi is being used. The Sony tablet can read PDF files and is also compatible with Windows XP/Vista/7/8 and Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later.
The DPT-S1 is available in Japan later this month and should on shelves in America in 2014.
