Jurassic World hit theatres this last weekend and smashed records. The fourth installment of the Jurassic Park series took 14 years in the making. Did you know these facts about the previous Jurassic Parks?
The first movie was released in 1993 and was directed by Steven Spielberg. Spielberg caught wind of the book being written by Michael Crichton. Before the book was even finished, Spielberg won the film rights and the rest is history.
A paleontologist from the Museum of the Rockies was the technical advisor for all of the Jurassic Park films. Jack Horner was responsible for pushing the movies to view the dinosaurs as more bird-like. His input and insight help make the dinosaurs appear more realistic.
The T. Rex attack scene in the first film is one of the most memorable scenes. Originally, Jeff Goldblum’s character is supposed to run away from it in fear, but he thought it would be better if he tried to stand up to the beast and look more heroic. Spielberg liked the idea and went with it.
In the 2nd Jurassic Park, the sounds in the film were actually different animal sounds. When the baby T. Rex cries, the crew used the cries of a baby camel. Also, Walrus whistles were used to make the ambient noises on the island.
Spielberg even admits that the 2nd film, The Lost World, was nowhere near as good as the first Jurassic Park.
The 3rd Jurassic Park’s original script called for a plane full of rich kids to crash on an island full of dinosaurs. The script was tossed out just five weeks before shooting began. Thank god!
Many people have said that Jurassic World is just as good as the first. The movie grossed more than $500 million dollars during it’s opening weekend, having the highest-grossing global opening ever. With that said, it must be good!
