Exercises Anyone Can Do To Get Up And Go This Year

New Year is always a time when people face the future with a new resolve to get fit and do more exercise. However, not everyone is motivated by the idea of hitting the gym. If you just hate the idea of exercising in front of other people or whether you just lack the fitness level that you need to get started with complex gym equipment , the good news is that there are lots of exercises which anyone can do.

Go For A Walk

The best thing about walking is that it’s completely free and anyone can do it. Even if you’re very unfit, you can start out small and work up to longer and faster walks over time. Start out by taking 10 minutes out of your day to walk in your local area. There’s no need to push yourself too much at first. When you feel ready, you can increase the speed at which you walk and the distance which you cover. Try to work up to a 30 minute walk each day that leaves you feeling a little out of breath. Not only is walking very good for you physically, it’s also good for your state of mind to get out in the fresh air and breathe.

Take A Swim

Swimming is the perfect form of exercise for anyone. Since it is non load-bearing, you won’t damage your joints or bones from getting into the water and it’s a really good workout for your whole body. Not only is swimming a good cardio workout, it’s also good for your muscles in your arms and legs, so you’ll tone up more effectively. No matter how unfit you are, swimming is a great place to start.

Shoot Some Hoops

If you have a basketball hoop in your backyard, shooting some hoops could be a great form of exercise without you having to face other people. You’ll be surprised by how much of a physical workout you can get from simply jumping after a ball around your own yard. If you suffer from pain in your knees, there’s a solution to that problem too – knee sleeves are an effective way to minimize pain and will help you to get more out of your workout.

Go Cycling

If you have a bike gathering rust in your garage, it’s time to get it out and ride around your neighbourhood. You may not have been on a bike for years, but it’s just like… well, it’s just like riding a bike! You’ll soon remember why you enjoyed it so much as a kid. You can explore your local area and get fit at the same time. It’s a lot of fun. You’ll shape up your legs and bottom and get a good cardio workout at the same time.

Yoga

Yoga is a wonderful way to stretch out and get fit at the same time. You don’t need to balance on your head or anything like that! Basic yoga positions are more about balance and strengthening the core muscles than about getting hot and sweaty and you won’t be pushed too far too fast. After just a few sessions, you’ll feel stronger and more capable and, even better, you’ll feel better mentally too. Yoga is a wonderful opportunity to meditate and clear your mind, making it a full workout for both mind and body. You don’t need to go to a class if you don’t want to. There are lots of tutorials on YouTube which you can follow which will guide you through the basics.

Any of these exercise ideas would be perfect for you to try if you want to get fit and healthy this new year. None of these forms of exercise are too strenuous to begin with, and they’ll ease you nicely into the mindset of working out on a regular basis even if you’re a complete beginner. Once you’re ready to progress to the next level, all of these activities can simply be pushed up a notch. Soon, you’ll be walking further, swimming faster and practicing new and different yoga poses for a whole new, healthier you. What are you waiting for?
