Make Fitness A Habit: Here’s How You Can Stick to Your Exercise

It is totally understandable not to be able to exercise daily. Most people live very busy lives to the point where they probably live off of extra loads of work already. But fitness has got to be part of everyone’s lifestyle because it breaks the work routine. There is nothing more refreshing than being able to drop everything to do an activity completely different from all the work you have been doing all day.

More importantly though, even the simplest workout can help prevent you from serious conditions like diabetes and heart disease. To help you get into the fitness mindset and make it stick, here are some tips you can use.

Take the time to go outside

Whether you are at work or at home, make sure you step outside for at least 15 minutes. A study made by Barton, Griffin, and Pretty titled Exercise-, nature- and socially interactive-based initiatives improve mood and self-esteem in the clinical population that going outside and walking in nature improves mood and happiness. Additionally, a study made in Stanford University saw that 90 minutes of being exposed to the natural environment can significantly reduce repetitive negative thinking.

This may not sound important to fitness, but a positive and happy mood will help motivate you to feel good about yourself and work towards bettering both mind and body.

Do it slowly

Especially if this is your first time to work out, never rush into it. The most important thing to do when you are starting out is to help your body get used to the workouts, rigorous or not. The first week, maybe you can do some light cardio and weightlifting. Then, as you go along, you can level up your exercise routine. Make sure to consult with a gym trainer though before you increase weights or change up your cardio so that you are not accidentally straining yourself.

Track your progress

This is where your wearable fitness device comes in. Trackers like the FitBit watches will allow you to track your progress since it monitors, not just your steps per day, but also your heart beat per minute, calorie intake, and sleep cycle. These are essential to your health because it gives you a general idea of your health. The data may not be as robust, because of course you still need to meet with a specialist, but it alerts you of there is something wrong.

For this reason, it might be wise to get your Fitbit Alta HR from Harvey Norman now so you know your baseline (normal health stats before working out), and set goals to improve it.

Workout with a friend

Maybe you are not comfortable with solo exercising. You can ask a close friend to help you with your fitness journey by  becoming your jogging buddy, getting a gym membership together, or trying out a diet with them. This may help motivate yourself to keep it up since a friend is also doing the same thing.

The key to sticking to the fitness habit is making sure you are happy and comfortable doing it. Yes, exercising is hard and at times, it can be tiring to do especially after a long day at work. But if you start this with positive mindset, you will definitely keep looking forward to the next workout.
