The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame organizers come together every year and announce a list of nominees to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some acts are nominated numerous times while others get in on the first nomination. Only six performers will be honored at the annual induction ceremony next year and the full list of nominees will not be confirmed until December.
Some of the nominees already announced include Cheap Trick, Nine Inch Nails, Janet Jackson, The Cars and N.W.A. This happens to be N.W.A’s 4th nomination, and after the huge success of the their autobiography, Straight Out of Compton this year, this just might be the year the iconic rap group ears a spot in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The ceremony is a glamorous event each year where all living inductees attend. They are presented with an award by an artist of their choice that has some how influenced their music. It is always interesting to see whom each inductee chooses. The event is also full of rocking live performances by some of the best in the biz. To be eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you must be nominated by the nominating committee and had released your first album 25 or more years ago.
Other acts up for the chance to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016 include Chicago, Steve Miller, The Smiths, Yes, Chaka Kahn, Deep Purple, The Spinner, The JB’s and Los Lobos. In 2015, Green Day, Joan Jett, Lou Reed, Bill Withers, Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band were inducted.
It is a huge honor to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is already pretty easy to tell who will eventually earn a spot, but some other inductees are surprising. I wouldn’t expect Nine Inch Nails to be nominated, but I also wouldn’t have guessed N.W.A. being nominated four times already either.
Who do you think should be inducted into the Rock Roll and Hall of Fame?
