Effectiveness of Hemp for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is an illness characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, mood, sleep, and memory issues.

Researchers believe hemp oil, which contains omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, can help in the recovery of cognitive abilities and reduce pain in a person with fibromyalgia.  This article discusses the effectiveness of hemp for fibromyalgia.

What Does Hemp Extract Contain?

CBD comes from hemp flowers. CBD stands for Cannabidiol, a chemical compound found in the cannabis Sativa plant. The hemp extract is used as a wellness supplement for the cannabinoids.  The CBD and THC in the cannabis Sativa plant cause the psychoactive “high.”

Hemp contains a higher amount of CBD, and only small traces of THC, which is why CBD extracted from the hemp plant helps in preparing CBD Fibromyalgia Cream. One of the benefits of using CBD Fibromyalgia Cream is it can be useful in reducing depression and anxiety associated with Fibromyalgia disorder.

CBD for Fibromyalgia- How Does It Work?

Medical cannabis is recommended for fibromyalgia treatment for various reasons.  Here are the three ways which show the effectiveness of hemp for fibromyalgia.

  • The CBD oil extracted from the hemp plant acts simultaneously on several pain targets. It interacts with receptors located throughout the central and peripheral nervous system, which is the pathway in which the pain signals travel along.  In fibromyalgia patients, this pathway is distorted. When an average person experiences burns or cuts, the brain is informed by the peripheral sensory neurons, which make you feel pain.
  • Cannabidiol works to influence the perception of pain by affecting the spinal processing of the pain. The CBD affects the activity of serotonin receptors that play a leading part in initiating the pain feeling and response. The CBD also activates the CB2 receptors on skin cells that cause the release of β-endorphin that acts on μ opioid receptors located on peripheral sensory neurons.  All these activities inhibit the message of pain from nociperception information.
  • When your body is in distress, it produces anandamide known to suppress pain initiation. However, this compound does not stay active in the body for long as it is eradicated by body enzyme known as “FAAH” (fatty acid amide hydrolase). CBD inhibits FAAH, thereby slowing down the decomposition of anandamide and suppressing pain initiation for a longer period.  This helps fibromyalgia patients to express pain relief for a longer time.

Is CBD Effective in Fibromyalgia?

CBD helps in managing chronic pain associated with fibromyalgia by direct or indirect interaction with receptors that are associated with the body for a sense of pain. It is known to affect opioid receptors, anandamide levels, and serotonin levels known to change the perception of pain.

The fibromyalgia patients experience chronic pain due to confusion between chemical signals sent by different sensory organs. CBD has the potential to mitigate some of the wrong pain signals sent to the brain that helps in reducing pain to a certain extent.

What is CBD Dosage for Fibromyalgia?

There is no standard CBD dosage for fibromyalgia, and doctors may recommend different CBD dosages based on patient health and treatment needs. The best dosage advice followed is to start with slow with small dosages and then increase dosage gradually.

Several scientific pieces of evidence show the effectiveness of hemp for Fibromyalgia treatment. This is the reason medical cannabis is legally offered in cannabis medical dispensaries.
