Earl Sweatshirt Drops Doris

Earl Sweatshirt Drops Doris. Finally.

Those who’ve been observing the underground rap game for some time are already well versed with Earl Sweatshirt, arguably the most talented member of rap super group Odd Future. After disappearing to a foreign institution for correcting what his mother considered behavioral problems bleeding into his schoolwork, Earl was long considered the most gifted dude guest spotting for Tyler and Frank Ocean that lacked his own album. The wait is officially over. Earl dropped Doris this week — and it’s pretty damn good.

Pitchfork already flagged the album as some of its ‘Best New Music’, which is always a good thing when you impress the music snobs. The album also has no shortage of guest artists: SK La’Flare, Vince Staples, Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, Casey Veggies, Tyler, the Creator, Mac Miller, and the RZA for extra marriage. Earl is a unique voice in that he offers a self-conscious and self-deprecating view often throughout his verses, employing wordplay and schemes in the style of DOOM — but maintaining a level of consistency lacking from the latter innovator of late.

Earl’s promotion for the album has been curious at times. Check out the unique performance he did for Fallon, as a camera follows him wordlessly into his own star debut. His freestyle on Sway in the Morning is also worth your time — how does someone get upset about a freestyle that complex?
