***Spoiler Alert***
AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead has finally returned for its 6th season. The first episode of the new season aired last night and the 90-minute episode had more walkers than ever before.
But even though there was no shortage of walkers, the episode wasn’t that great. Don’t get me wrong, every episode of The Walking Dead is good, but I was expecting so much more. I really thought they could have fit more into the 90 minutes. It was slow and didn’t really cover much ground.
It doesn’t look like Rick and Morgan have any issues with each other, like the previews made you think. They actually are close friends again. But, there are other people that Rick has some beef with. Pete’s son, Ron, is of course upset with Rick and he has no problem showing it.
A new character named Carter, played by Ethan Embry, also had issues with Rick. But he ended up getting bit by a walker and Rick had to kill him. It really wasn’t that big of a deal so not even worth elaborating on.
The episode was kind of all over the place. There were some scenes that were from the past and those happened to be in black and white. That was a cool effect, but it was still just really slow. Jump ahead to the current time and Rick is trying to get a group together to deal with a herd of walkers bigger than I have ever seen. If the group doesn’t do something quick, the huge herd will head right towards Alexandria.
It was really cool to see the group come together and work closely to try and get the walkers to go in a different direction. I liked how Nick has turned over a new leaf (hopefully) and works with Glenn to get the job done. Rick is pretty hard on the Alexandrians, but they are weak so they need to toughen up somehow.
The best part of the episode was any scene Eugene was in. He added a lot of humor to the episode and was the one thing that kept the episode going. There is also a new character, Heath, who seems like he might become a big part of the group. It will definitely be interesting to see what is ahead on The Walking Dead. Hopefully the next episode is better!
