It’s the best Bond film in years. If you haven’t seen Daniel Craig’s third outing as the man with the martini, it elevates his performance to the legendary status enjoyed by one Sir Sean Connery. Skyfall plays out like an homage to the entire series, a figurative passing of the baton from previous stars. It’s a stunningly beautiful and violent installment that proves the franchise is still very much alive, adopting a solemn attitude that paints 007 as a ruthless agent who happens to be particularly adept at keeping his emotions in check. Javier Bardem steps in as the villain, adding a masterful dimension to his character perhaps never seen before in recent Bond history. Easily one of the best films in 2012.
